Located near Hanoi, VUM is part of the Topas Vietnam Trail Series along with Vietnam Mountain Marathon, Vietnam Trail Marathon and Vietnam Jungle Marathon. Our series began with the nation’s first ultra in 2013.

VUM - The Trails of Mai Chau
Welcome to the second edition of VUM, the newest race from Vietnam Trail Series by Topas. We searched in many provinces for our fourth race location, and this was the clear winner.
VUM offers miles of beautiful trails between remote villages. Flowing downhills. Tough climbs. Too many ‘wow views’ to count. This area has all the ingredients of an awesome, challenging, rewarding Topas Vietnam Trail Series race.

DISTANCES
On this 75km ultra you will venture deep into Mai Chau, far from the usual paths. The route climbs up to the fabled land of Hang Kia, where Hmong communities live not far from the border with Laos. For many years, this area was completely off the tourist map. Now you can run here and discover another side of Mai Chau.
The 55km follows the same course as our 75km; however, it cuts a lot of the elevation gain by removing the first 20km of the 75km route. Starting at almost 900m altitude, this beautiful ultra route has a high percentage of trail through a wide variety of stunning landscapes.
The Vietnam Ultra Marathon 25km starts and finishes in Mai Chau offering a diverse route with a high percentage of trail.
For 2025, we have added some flat, easy valley kilometres at the start to bring this race up to 15km, from the first edition’s 10km distance. This beautiful route now offers a great mix of terrain, with some solid hills following your runnable start. The course is challenging enough to make you proud when you cross the finish line!
This beautiful and relatively flat 5km route is ideal for families and newbies, offering a chance to explore Mai Chau’s beautiful landscapes and local culture together.
Giving Back – VUM Charity
VUM is part of the Vietnam Trail Series which has now raised over USD500,000 for good causes. We have funded:
- Community projects, in every area where we work
- Support for kids in crisis through Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation
- Surgery for children via Operation Smile
- Newborns Vietnam – a charity that works to improve life chances of critically ill newborns
- Drowning prevention programs with Hue Help
Included in the race fee:
- Competitor T-shirt for all distances
- Finisher T-shirt for Ultra 50km/70km
- Race bib with chip timing

- Charity donation (for 25km – 70km distances)
- Shuttle from Lac village to start for 50km
- Water and nutrition at checkpoints
- Finisher meal at the finish line
- Free photos (cannot be guaranteed for all runners, but we try to get one of everyone!)

Package prices are per person and exclude race fee. Private room standard is twin/double sharing with another runner; single occupancy is available with surcharge.
Children policy: Children under 6: free (sharing bed with parents) | 6-11 years old: Child rate, extra bed | Over 11: Adult pricing
