This year, the elite field at VMM is set to be more stacked than ever before, particularly in the two World Trail Majors distances of 100km and 50km.
To rank on World Trail Majors, runners need to run two races in the series. VMM is set to welcome athletes who are pairing it with either Ultra Trail Cape Town, Transgrancanaria, Hong Kong 100, Mt.FUJI 100 or the GPT100 Miler.
The VMM 50km is set for an extremely fast year, with a host of men with ITRA scores of around 900 and women in the high 700s and low 800s.
For context, last year the VMM 50km female course record was set by China’s Fuzhao Xiang whose ranking of 812 places her 10th in the world. On the men’s side, China’s Jianjian Yang (ITRA index 915) set the VMM 50km course record.
The elites joining VMM 2026 will be revealed soon, but those who follow ultra running closely in Vietnam may already know of two of the runners who are set to race our 100km. They smashed the course records in Dalat last weekend and they’ve already shared their plans to join VMM. Aleksei Beresnev and Antonina Iushina will both be pairing VMM 100km with Ultra Trail Cape Town.
They will face a deep field in the 100km, with a host of top international runners and the best of Vietnam set to race.
