While “Tet” (Lunar New Year) comes on 29/1/2025, the Hmong people will celebrate their New Year for 20 days starting from 30/12/2024 (i.e. the 30th day of the 11th lunar month).
This means VTM 2025 on January 11, is perfectly timed with the Hmong New Year celebrations in Moc Chau.
Most of the villages you will run through at the race are home to Hmong people. As you run through the scenic trails, you may get the unique opportunity to witness the vibrant and colorful traditions of the Hmong people.
During this festive season, the Hmong community gathers to honor their ancestors, celebrate the harvest, and welcome the new year with joy. You might catch glimpses of traditional music, the sound of the “khèn” (Hmong flute), and see locals dressed in their most beautiful, embroidered clothing. The festive atmosphere is filled with traditional games like “ném pao” (ball throwing), and if you’re lucky, you may witness a dance performance or even a friendly game of spinning top.
Running VTM 2025 isn’t just about the race – it’s about immersing yourself in the cultural richness of the region.
