Blue Dragon kids train for VMM 2020 Powered by Garmin

The Topas team recently visited our charity partner Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation with Quang Nguyen, one of our trail stars, to inspire and train the young Blue Dragon team members who will join VMM 2020 Powered by Garmin.

This year 10 Blue Dragon kids will run VMM, including one child with disabilities who will take on the 21k. To prepare for the race, they are all training hard with the great Blue Dragon staff.

Blue Dragon Chirldren’s Foundation recently shared a video of some of their kids running to train for VMM. Many of them have not been running for long, but already they are completing full laps of Hanoi’s West Lake (Ho Tay).

“We are fortunate to get regular updates on the great work of Blue Dragon,” said David Lloyd, Director of Sport at Topas. “We are regularly impressed by the foundation’s stellar work with street kids and the stories of rescuing trafficked women from their captors. The recent video update of the kids running was inspiring on another level and we were very happy to offer to arrange one a visit from Quang to help inspire the children in return.”

At the run session, Quang said: “I am very happy to join the training with Blue Dragon and share my basic training knowledge with the kids. They are all new to running and do not have much experience. However, they all trained very hard and their faces were radiant when running. I was very impressed with that and would like to share my experience to help them prepare better for the upcoming Vietnam Mountain Marathon 2020 Powered by Garmin event.”

The kids loved the session and were pleased to learn from Quang. “Quang was very enthusiastic and friendly. We were very happy to train with him”, one Blue Dragon kid said.

Chi, a Blue Dragon staff added: “We were happy to welcome Quang and Topas staff to join the training with the kids. Quang’s training tips and his knowledge about VMM course helped us to have a clear image about the race. The training had more people than normal (only BD staff with the kids) so the kids became more energetic. Quang was very friendly and enthusiastic so they were also very excited”.

Blue Dragon has been working in Vietnam for 15 years to end human trafficking and to provide care to Vietnamese children and families in crisis.
