Your adventure begins in the heart of remote Nam Cang Village which lies at the head of a peaceful valley in the Hoang Lien Mountain Range. After a short road warm-up you will turn onto a small trail leading to a pretty suspension bridge crossing the white water of Nam Cang River.
Next you’ll climb a single track to Nam Ngan village, home of the Red Dao minority.
As you climb the side of Nam Ngan mountain you will earn ever more stunning views of the beautiful valleys and mountain peaks all around.
You might meet some Red Dao people along the way who will definitely not be used to meeting trail runners – please say ‘Mình Hải’ if you want to impress them (It means ‘where are you going?’, but as they don’t use a form of ‘hello’ this is a good alternative!)
You will then descend the hill on a paved section with yet more expansive mountain vistas toward Nam Sai village, home of the Tay minority and CP1.
The adventure continues to the Xa Pho minority village of My Son, then onto Thanh Phu, home of the Tay people on the small track running along the Muong Bo River. Many Topas staff have family here, so you may see some familiar faces. Next, run along a hidden valley on clay trail used by the villagers and their buffalo. After a paved section you will reach Nam Nhiu village and CP2.
The next section is breathtaking. The trail runs through the middle of the valley which will be full of harvest-ready golden rice, the postcard-perfect terraces dotted with bamboo huts. After crossing a small bridge that was built with support from Topas Travel, you climb a steep hill heading to Nam Than village of the Blue H’mong people.
You soon will complete your race with a great jungle section – this is hard and uphill and will make your finish feeling all the sweeter as you cross the suspension bridge finish line at race HQ, Topas Riverisde Lodge.
